Mandela announced today plans for a second 46664 concert to be staged
in South Africa early next year. Fifteen months after their participation
in the historic 46664 founding concert in Cape Town last November,

The following excerpt
is taken from Brian's newsletter for the Official
Queen Fan Club. Maybe this letter will also calm down some people
who are getting *far too excited* about the name "Queen"
used on the tour next spring.
"EXTRA!! Roger's "Invincible Hope"
track (studio version), written for last year's 46664 concert which
we organised for nelson Mandela's AIDS in Africa crusade, will be
released on an EP of four songs, by the English 46664 company. The
EP will also feature Paul McCartney, who also wrote a song specially
for the 46664 cause." |

WWRY Cologne Premiere
It was a great premiere that took place at the Musical Dome on Sunday,
12th December. Again you can read a review on the website of Cologne's
most important newspapers "Kölner
Stadtanzeiger" and "Express".
to see a few pictures of this event. (I will add mine as soon as they
are available).
After the premiere those who were the lucky ones to be given an orange
wristband were transported via shuttle bus to the "Flora"
where the aftershow party took place. The setlist is on Brian's website.
The cast started the gig and around 0.30 am Roger and Brian hit the
stage. The only downer was that during Queen's performance it was
not allowed to take any pictures which caused a small riot between
Queen's management and the invited photographers. Apart from that
the 40 minute gig was fun throughout and Roger and Brian obviously
enjoyed playing! |

1000 number
ones
70s Queen Bohemian Rhapsody, 1975
'Bohemian Rhapsody' was Queen's first No 1 in November 1975. It reached
No 1 again after its re-release following Freddie
Mercury's death in November 1991. In total it has spent 14 weeks at
the top spot and is one of only five singles to sell more than two
million copies in the UK. |

Drummer Roger
Taylor: "We didn't think of it as a single
at first, it was just another record that we were making for our
album. We just thought it was a fairly extraordinary piece of work
and so it should probably be the first single. It was breaking all
the rules, of course the record company held their hands up in horror
and said 'you'll never get it on the radio for more than three seconds.
Our career was on the up at the time. But it did affect us internationally;
nine months later we arrived in Australia on a world tour and it
was No 1 there, so it kind of echoed around the world for us. We
did everything we possibly could to avoid appearing on Top of the
Pops . It was one; the most boring day known to man and two; it's
all about not actually playing, you know pretending to sing, pretending
to play. We came up with the video concept to avoid playing on Top
of the Pops . We couldn't be on TOTP because we were on tour, so
we came up with a way of being on it without being there... It was
difficult to perform live. We used to play the main sections live,
and then unashamedly leave the stage for the central section which
was unperformable, I mean we only had three singers in the band
so obviously we couldn't. We used to disappear and have a change
of frocks during that piece and come back with a big bang for the
heavy section. Obviously I feel good about it topping polls but
I'm sceptical of those things. I've got hundreds of favourite songs
and I think to single out one is fairly ridiculous, but what is
nice for us is that it resonates with so many people. I think we
were all so swept away with Freddie's death that we didn't really
notice when it was released in 1991 and went to No 1 again. But
it was all a bit of a blur that time - slightly meaningless."
