Queen's Day
2006
Queen´s
Day is a Brazilian annual convention, already in its fifth edition,
aiming to gather Queen fans from all over Brazil and neighbor countries
in a tribute to its vocalist , Freddie Mercury, dead in 1991, victim
of Aids. The event is also an opportunity to reinforce the information
about Aids and prevention forms. This year Queen's Day renders homage
to the 25 years of the passage of the hurricane Queen by Brazil, to
Freddie´s 60th birthday and the 15th anniversary of his physical
death . So choose for this year´s theme "The Golden Boy",
that well describes what was and what still is Freddie for all of
us, his fans. (with thanks to Milene!) |

Roger Taylor
and Brian May citation for The Who
Roger Taylor and Brian May attended the first ever Vodafone Live Music
Awards at the Roundhouse, London, on October 11. They presented the
final award of the evening, the inagural Freddie Mercury Award for
Live Music, which went to The Who. Rdio DJ, Chris Moyles, introduced
Brian and Roger with a short film collage of comment and live performance,
as if people needed rerminding of Queen's live musical prowess. Then
Roger spoke of how The Who had influenece both himself and Brian a
lot and said that he had seen The Who in that very hall and they had
torn the place apart. He acknowledged that how The Who had suffered
two major losses, something he and Brian could relate to and that
they were now only two but still "The Who". Brian declared
them the best live band ever. A video tribute to The Who followed
and a filmed acceptance from Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey, speaking
from Chicago, where they were about to play a live show. The Who are
currently on tour in the States. (source, you can also listen to their
speeches on Brian's website.) |

Little Britain
- Opening night
Matt Lucas and David Williams take their BAFTA Award-winning TV show
Little Britain on tour around the UK. These dates are at the Carling
Apollo Hammersmith. Little Britain is now in its third BBC series
after earning mainstream popularity with its collection of absurd
characters, ridiculous scenarios, toilet humour, dodgy jokes and endless
repetition, with results ranging from unfunny to hilarious and back
again. After this tour the nation must surely reach saturation point,
unless, of course, there are plans for another series... (source)
What's this doing on on here? Roger was at the opening night. Here
are some pics. Enjoy! |

Paul Rodgers
receives BMI award
Brian May, Roger Taylor and Paul Rodgers attended the BMI Awards earlier
today. BMI saluted the top European songwriters, composers and publishers
at its 2006 London Awards, staged Oct. 3 in the Ballroom of London's
Dorchester Hotel. In addition to honoring the past year's most-played
songs on U.S. radio and television, the gala dinner and awards ceremony
also recognized Kinks frontman and legendary songwriter Ray Davies
(PRS) as a BMI Icon for his "enduring influence on generations
of music makers." "Million-Air" certificates were also
presented throughout the evening in recognition of those songs that
have achieved over three million U.S. radio and television performances
- or the equivalent of more than 17 years of continuous airplay. Paul
Rodgers rceived a Million-Air certificate for "All Right Now"
ahead of his show at the Royal Albert Hall. Brian May and Roger Taylor
were on hand.
Last night Paul Rodgers held his Royal
Albert Hall show, in London, as part of his current solo
tour. Brian May and his wife, Anita Dobson, and also Roger Taylor
were in attendance at the show, seated in the Logia box at the Albert
Hall (source).
